We live in a world that is made up of narratives, ideas about what's valuable and what isn't.
Stories passed down to us by our peers, family, community, society.
But how many of these stories are true?
Is it true that other people's needs are more important than your own?
Is it true that being 'productive' is more important than being true to yourself?
Or that self care, without simultaneously engaging in an activity like working out, isn't 'productive' enough?
What happens when you stand up for yourself?
When you say no instead of yes to other people's expectations, or even to that critical voice inside of you that's constantly pushing you to do and be more?
How much are you held back by the stories you carry?
How many of those stories keep you small, trapped in fear, expectation, and habitual patterns that hurt you?
What if you released the stories that keep you from shining your light?
And what if you created your own light to live by?
How do you talk to yourself?
Do you struggle with negative self talk?
Do you tell yourself you're not good enough?
Or beat yourself up for making mistakes?
And if you're hard on yourself when you make mistakes, how do you talk to yourself when you fail?
Maybe your internal critic keeps you up at night, going through everything you need to do and haven't done, and all the ways you don't and never will measure up.
Or calls you selfish for taking time for yourself?
Who's voice is it?
Where does it come from?
And why, no matter what you do, or how hard you try to get everything right, does it keep coming back?
What would happen if instead of beating yourself up about your inner mean girl you invited her closer?
You asked her why she was saying such mean things?
You told her you loved her.
Sometimes having an open minded, curious conversatin with your inner critic can shift everything, can change the story, reframe the narrative, reveal the truth...
