Your self care journey begins with Part 1,
You're the One You've Been Waiting For:
Self Care Starts with You
Are you ready to dive in?
See what's inside below....
Starting Your Day with Sacred Self Care
Start the day by taking care of yourself with simple morning rituals like meditation & journaling, to exponentially increase your energy & focus, not only in the morning, but also throughout the day.
This week you'll practice living the question.
“One way we coax the life of the new self is by living the questions that inhabit our dark night, by dwelling creatively with the unresolved inside us. There is an art to living your questions. You peel them. You listen to them. You let them spawn new questions. You hold the unknowing inside." Sue Monk Kidd
The Magic Word is Sleep
Learn how to fall asleep easily and sleep soundly throughout the night. Because everything falls apart when we don't get the sleep we need!
This week you'll practice being in and loving your body.
Staying Focused During the Day
Release stress and refocus with an afternoon five minute pause and reset breathing break or meditation.
This week you'll practice letting go...
What Lights Up & Soothes Your Heart & Soul?
Discover what lights up and soothes your heart & soul, & make it a daily habit, so that you stay connected to your true self in the midst of the busy workday, as well as the countless other distractions that pull you away from your center.
Commit to staying true to you.
This week you'll practice stepping into and living from your heart.
(For those of you who took the 30 Day Self Care Adventure, 6 week Self Care Series, or Self Care TLC with me, Self Care Starts With You is similar, but not the same! There's lots of new content and material based on the feedback you gave me!. It's a new & improved iteration!:)
As you make your way through Sacred Self Care Immersion Module 1, many of your journal prompts will come from Wild Mind, Living the Writer's Life, the first book in your Sacred Self Care Bookclub!
The Sacred Self Care Bookclub (or reading list), is totally optional, and you get everything you need from this course without it, but for those of you who LOVE reading, this is a special opportunity to read some phenomenal books to help inspire you in your sacred self care journey.
For more than forty years Natalie has practiced zen meditation & buddhism and taught seminars in writing as a practice.
People from around the world attend her life-changing workshops, and she has earned a reputation as a great teacher. The Oprah Winfrey Show sent a film crew to spend the day with Natalie for a segment on Spirituality that covered her writing, teaching, painting, and walking meditation.
In Wild Mind "there is a larger vision of the writer's task: balancing daily responsibilites with a commitment to writing; knowing when to take risks as a writer and as a human being; coming to terms with success and failure and loss; and learning self acceptance - both in life and in art."
In your second Module you'll iterate your self care practices from Module 1, while clarifying why self care is a superpower & continuing your journey toward being a self care superhero, shining your light out into the world, and standing in your power (a power that comes from your heart).
A is for Attention & Awareness:
Ultimately what we pay attention to defines our life. What do you pay attention to? What are you aware of? How does your quality of attention and awareness affect you and others? Why do you pay attention, or place your awareness in that way? Where does your focus lens come from? And what would happen if you adjusted that lens anywhere from a few degrees to a 180 degree turn?
B is for Back to Basics & Beginner's Mind:
Let's start over with a beginner's mind & self care ground rules:
Morning rituals; Afternoon pause; Evening UnwindMeditation & ReflectionJournaling & Morning PagesSleep!Solitude & your Sweet Spot
C is for Clarity & Commitment
What is self care? Why is it important? What happens when you don’t take care of yourself?Living your quesitons, sankalpa, & heartfelt desire
D is for Downtime & Non-Doing
Why we need to slow down to get where we’re going.
"In order to get there, first we need to be here." :)
If you want to supplement your Sacred Self Care Immersion with phenomenal reading, you'll really begin to dive in with Jon Kabat-Zinn's Wherever You Go, There You Are.
Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, is internationally known for his work as a scientist, writer, and meditation teacher engaged in bringing mindfulness into the mainstream of medicine and society. He is professor of medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and author of numerous books.
In Wherever You Go, There You Are he maps out a simple path for cultivating mindfulness in one's own life. This book speaks both to those coming to meditation for the first time and to longtime practitioners, anyone who cares deeply about reclaiming the richness of his or her moments.
In your thrid Module you'll commit to daily movement to increase energy, release stress, focus your mind and love your beautiful body!
Strength, Core, Balance & Stretch it out!
One of the most powerful ways to take care of yourself is strengthening and stretching your core. If your core isn't strong enough you're much more likely to injure yourself or experience chronic pain, especially in the low back.
In this module you'll start each day (or at least 2-3 days a week) with a 20-30 minute fire & flow core video practice with me, that ends with your morning meditation. This practice will energize you, wake you up, make you feel strong, sexy, confident, and ready to take on the world! You'll also have 10x more mental focus and presence throughout your day, as well as increased physical endurance and energy.
Then, at the end of the day, in lieu of yoga nidra, you'll practice a 30-40 minute deep stretch & release video followed by a full body relaxation, to let go and release any stress or tension that accumulates throughout the day and week. If you think yoga nidra is amazing, wait till you do this practice! Combining a full body relaxation with deep stretching is guaranteed to give you a good night's sleep.
Sacred Self Care Immersion, Part 2 includes daily gratitude journaling.
And it only takes 5 minutes!
For $6 on Amazon you can invest in the paperback version of The Five Minute Journal and start each day by filling out the sample you see to the right, then end the day by answering the last two questions.
Keeping a gratitude journal also has super sweet health and self care benefits such as:
strengthening your immune system
improving sleep patterns,
feeling optimistic & experiencing more joy & pleasure,
being more helpful & generous,
feeling less lonely & isolated,
and mitigating depression.
In studies where participants regularly wrote down what they were grateful for, they reported improvements in mood, health, and overall outlook in life.
I think that's well worth 5 minutes a day!
In your fourth Module you'll practice paying mindful and curious attention to what, why and how you eat.
Now that you’re moving your body, pay attention to your eating habits. Do you eat? Or do you skip breakfast or other meals? What we put in our bodies is as important as moving our bodies.
One Bite (or Sip) at a Time
Mindful eating involves paying full attention to the experience of eating and drinking, both inside and outside the body.
We pay attention to the colors, smells, textures, flavors, temperatures, and even the sounds (crunch!) of our food.
We pay attention to the experience of the body. Where in the body do we feel hunger? Where do we feel satisfaction? What does half-full feel like, or three quarters full?
We also pay attention to the mind.
While avoiding judgement or criticism, we watch when the mind gets distracted, pulling away from full attention to what we are eating or drinking.
We watch the impulses that arise after we've taken a few sips or bites: to grab a book, to turn on the TV, to call someone on our cell phone, or to do web search on some interesting subject.
We notice the impulse and return to just eating.
We notice how eating affects our mood and how our emotions like anxiety influence our eating. Gradually we regain the sense of ease and freedom with eating that we had in childhood. It is our natural birthright.
The old habits of eating and not paying attention are not easy to change. Don't try to make drastic changes. Lasting change takes time, and is built on many small changes.
We start simply. One bite (or sip) at a time
In this Moduel I'll guide you through simple mindful eating practices to bring more attention (with compassion and curiosity) to what, how, when, and why you eat.
In this book Pema Chödrön shows us how to break free of destructive patterns in our lives and experience a new sense of freedom and happiness.
Drawing on the Buddhist concept of shenpa, she helps us to see how certain habits of mind tend to “hook” us and get us stuck in states of anger, blame, self-hatred, and addiction.
The good news is that once we start to see these patterns, we can begin to change our lives for the better.
We must learn how to stay present and open our hearts.
“This path entails uncovering three basic human qualities,” explains Pema. “These qualities have always been with us but perhaps have gotten buried and almost forgotten. They are natural intelligence, natural warmth, and natural openness. Everyone, everywhere, all over the globe, has these qualities and can call on them to help themselves and others."
In your fifth Module you'll create healthy boundaries & learn how to fall, fail, & make mistakes with love & compassion...
Creating Healthy Boundaries that Support You
Explore when and why you overstep your boundaries and learn how to commit to and take care of yourself by being true to healthy boundaries that support and honor your self care
Falling Down, Failure & Fear Held in Love
Learn how to reframe “failure” After all if you don’t make mistakes, how can you ever learn? Often your failures are your greatest opportunities for transformation. Learn how to both forgive yourself for and grow stronger from the times you fall down.
Take some time to process all the phenomenal work you've done. Slow down. Breathe. Be.
This week you'll also have the opportuinity to do some intensive coaching with me to help you with any hurdles or challenges that came up for you, support you in your self care journey, and celebrate your a-ha and breakthrough moments!
Social scientist Brené Brown ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.It is the rise from falling that Brown takes as her subject in Rising Strong. Walking into our stories of hurt can feel dangerous. But the process of regaining our footing in the midst of struggle is where our courage is tested and our values are forged
In your sixth and final Module you'll RAWR!
RAWR: Recognize, Allow, Witness, Release & Reframe...
Recognize the Stories You Carry
In order for change to happen we first need to recognize the ways we (often unconsciously) hold ourselves back. This week you’ll bring awareness to, shine the light on, & practice recognizing the stories you carry and the ways in which they limit your ability to fly.
This is how you begin to build your runway for takeoff!
Release the Old Narrative
Once you recognize your limiting narrative you can begin to release it, making room for a new narrative to live your life from.
Prepare for takeoff!
Reframe Your Life
This is when you begin to find, strap on and own your wings so you can fly. Discover, create and embody the story that supports you and shine your light into the world...
Now that you've made a full on commitment to your self care, to reclaiming your truth, shining your light, and living from your heart, it's time to bring all of that radiant love & power out into the world!
What social, environmental, community, local or worldwide issues are you passionate about?
How much of your time can you give while maintaining a healthy balance between giving to others and taking care of yourself?
And what type of activism resonates in your core? Volunteering on a personal basis? Writing letters? Finding a group? Or even starting a group?
How can you be the change you want to see in the world?
As angel Kyodo williams (a writer, activist, Zen priest, & the author of Being Black: Zen, says)
"Without inner change there can be no outer change. Without collective change, no change matters."
In Sacred Self Care Immersion the focus is on YOU.
You can go at your own pace, and you have unlimited email access to me, as well as two free 30 minute self care one-on-one sessions with me a month, with the option to invest in more or longer (such as 60 minute) one-on-one self care support from me.
I'm here for you. And everything I offer, I practice.
From meditation to journaling, to afternoon pauses to yoga nidra, to getting a good night's sleep to core work and yin yoga, to being more mindful of what and how I eat.
So I know it works. But I also know that self care is not a one size fits all practice!
And I encourage you to listen to your body, heart and soul, and make what I offer true to you. I think this is particularly important when it comes to food. We all need and enjoy different foods! From vegans to carnivores. Respect what brings you joy and gives you energy. But whether you love red meat or don't eat any animal products, eating mindfully will change your life. Just as a car can't run without gas, we can't thrive without the foods that support us.
It's all interconnected: mind, body, heart, spirit; phsycial, emotional, mental; inside and outside; taking care of ourselves and giving to the world. This is an in depth comprehensive course because self care (and the world we live in), is multidimensional.
It's a journey, and we take it one step at a time.
Are you ready for the first step?
